2013 Offseason

  • Alex Smith to the Chiefs

Former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith didn't survive Colin Kaepernick's ride to Super Bowl XLVII. The Kansas City Chiefs agreed on a trade that will see Smith playing for Andy Reid's new team.

  • Free Aghency
    • Miami Dolphins: Ex-Steelers' deep threat Mike Wallace finds a new home in Miami by signing a 5-year contract.
The Dolphins also signed Dannell Ellerbe
    • Cleveland Browns:Cleveland signed ex-Ravens' defensive end Paul Kruger to a 5-year contract
    • Denver Broncos: Perhaps the biggest move of this second day among the free agents is the Broncos signing ex-Patriot Wes Welker to a 2-year deal. Denver offers the best slot receiver to Peyton Manning.
Welker was targeted 175 times in 2012 with the Patriots, he's also got five 100+ reception seasons (most in NFL history).
Welker's departure won't be easy to handle.
    • Detroit Lions: Megatron's team signed ex-Dolphin Reggie Bush to a 4-year contract.
    • New England Patriots: Ex-Rams' wideout Danny Amendola signed a 5-year contract with the Patriots.
New England tries to replace Wes Welker's departure with a receiver who plays in the same register.
  • End of the ride (as a Raven)

Former Baltimore free safety Ed Reed is no longer a Raven as he signed a three-year contract with the Houston Texans.
It is not a big surprise to see the best ball stealer leaving the Super Bowl XLVII champs.
With Ray Lewis retired and a lot of key players in this defense as Paul Kruger, Cary Williams and, most of all, Dannell Ellerbe who was supposed to replace Lewis' retirement.
A brand new challenge for a guy who's got nothing to prove anymore in terms of reading a quarterback or intercepting the football. At some points, he misses some tackles but that's not the first concern of a safety...

  • State of the Ravens

Following a Super Bowl victory, there are always questions.
This time, maybe one more, what are they doing this offseason?
`` Following a Super Bowl victory, there are always questions. This time, maybe one more, what are they doing this offseason? They lost key players on both side of the ball. After making Joe Flacco the highest paid quarterback in NFL history, Baltimore's front office didn't resign cornerback Cary Williams who's gone to Philadelphia, defensive end Paul Kruger, plus they released safety Bernard Pollard and traded wideout Anquan Boldin to the 49ers. With Ray Lewis retired, it's not surprising at all that veteran free safety Ed Reed signed with the Texans. However Ravens' general manager is pretty confident and says that the franchise will rebuild the team as it always does, with smart drafting and wise free agent signing. It will take some time, for sure. Another way to say, "Baltimore won't repeat its Super Bowl win this season"
